

ULTRASONIC INSPECTION
Ultrasonic testing (UT) is a safe and non-invasive technique to detect internal flaws or characterize materials. It uses high frequency sound energy to propagate through a material and pick up any material change (i.e. cracking) detected.
UT can used to measure the thickness of a test item, identify underside corrosion, or weld scanning for internal defects and compliance to an acceptance criteria/code.

Typical flaws detected when using ultrasonic inspection:

Detection of manufacturing flaws (lack of sidewall fusion, lack of root penetration, lack of root fusion, porosity, etc.)

In-service flaws (fatigue cracking, stress corrosion cracking, corrosion, erosion, etc.)

parent material flaws (inclusions and laminations)
